Grad/Undergrad Mentoring Program

About Grad/Undergrad Mentoring Program

The Penn Mentoring Program pairs undergraduates with graduate and professional students to help undergraduates learn first-hand about the student experience in graduate school.  We currently have mentors in a wide array of fields, including architecture, biology, business, education, engineering, law, medicine, poltical science, psychology, sociology, and more!

This program is cosponsored by Penn Graduate Student Center, GAPSA, and UA.

Undergraduates interested in attending grad school are also encouraged to take advantage of these other Penn resources:

Career Services provides information on graduate study and professional schools; has grad school advisors, offers workshops, and keeps an extensive resources library.

CURF (Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships) assists with finding research opportunities to strengthen your graduate school application and with fellowship opportunities to fund graduate school.

Effective Mentoring

Thursday, November 06, 2014, 05:00 PM - 06:30 PM
Room 305 (3rd Floor), Graduate Student Center

What makes for an effective mentor?  In this interactive workshop, participants will be asked to consider how to develop and sustain a positive working relationship with mentees, as well as strategies for teaching one-on-one.  Although this workshop is presented as part of the Graduate-Undergraduate Mentoring Program at the Grad Center, which matches graduate students with undergraduates interested in applying and attending graduate school, it is open to all graduate students at Penn!

Presented by Julie McGurk, Ph.D., Associate Director for the Center for Teaching and Learning at Penn. Julie is an experienced educator and professional-development facilitator. Julie earned her Ph.D. in neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University and completed a teaching postdoctoral fellowship here at Penn.  She currently teaches in the Biological Basis of Behavior program.
