About Navigating the Dissertation

Navigating the Dissertation seeks to help doctoral students be successful in the dissertation process through workshops, resources, dissertation groups, and Dissertation Boot Camp. This program is cosponsored by Penn Graduate Student Center and GAPSA.

The Library offers a great many workshops to help in the research and dissertation process. 

Career Services offers extensive programming to help doctoral students transfer their skills to the academic and non-academic job market process.

Writing and (optional) Meditation Mondays


Feel like you're stumbling over your writing?

Stressed out after a long period of intensive writing?

Or just don't know how to clear your mind to start writing?

Join us for Writing and Meditation Mondays!!!

Each Monday (unless noted), there will be two sessions: morning session (10am-12) and afternoon session (1-4pm). You will be writing intensively with a community of dissertation writers.

In between sessions, we will have Sandi Herman, M.S., Health and Wellness Educator at Student Health Service, lead us in an optional group meditation circle featuring:

  • guided seated meditation
  • moving meditation (qigong)
  • self-massage

The meditation will help you to better organize your mind and refresh yourself to be more productive in writing!

Morning sessions:
9:50 am:  Sign in at Room 305
10:00 am -12:00 Intensive writing with a community of dissertation writers, Room 305

Meditation Circle (optional) from 12-1pm.  If you do not wish to participate, you must leave the room for the 1 hour period.

Afternoon sessions
12:00 - 1:00 pm: Meditation circle led by Sandi Herman, Room 305
1:00 - 4:00 pm:  Intensive writing with a community of dissertation writers, Room 305
