Round Table Discussions

Friday, April 20, 2018, 12:00 PM - 01:00 PM
Room 305 (3rd Fl), Grad Center, 3615 Locust Walk, Graduate Student Center Room 305

The Graduate Student Center is organizing a series of discussions/listening sessions on topics of particular concern to graduate students. The three-part series will cover mentoring on March 20th, sexual harassment on April 10th, and diversity on April 20th.

The goal is to provide space for students to share their concerns and ideas and for us to be able to (anonymously) share that with the President's and Provost’s Offices. Lunch will be served.

The sessions are as follows:

Mentoring Listening and Discussion Session, Tuesday, March 20 from 12-1PM

Dr. Anita Mastroieni, Executive Director for Graduate Education and Initiatives, will facilitate a conversation about the state of mentoring in graduate education at Penn. This session will include a discussion of how the University's standards on mentoring graduate students might develop and invites graduate students to give insight from their own experiences.

Sexual Harassment Listening and Discussion Session, Tuesday, April 10 from 12-1PM

Jessica Mertz, Director of Penn Violence Prevention and Dr. Litty Paxton, Director of the Penn Women's Center, will lead a discussion about the University's sexual harassment policy and reporting procedures. This session will provide an opportunity for graduate and professional students to ask questions about the current policy and to provide feedback for improvements.

Diversity Listening and Discussion Session, Friday, April 20 from 12-1pm

Facilitated by Dr. Arnaldo Diaz, Director of the Office of Research and Diversity Training in Biomedical Graduate Studies, and Charquinta Sullivan, Assistant Director, Graduate Student Center, this discussion on diversity in Penn graduate schools will highlight initiatives designed to attract, retain, and support underrepresented graduate and professional students, and give students space to reflect on and share ideas around diversity and inclusion at Penn.

Writing Consultations

Tuesday, April 24, 2018, 01:00 PM - 04:00 PM
Room 303 (3rd Fl), Grad Center, 3615 Locust Walk

The Graduate Student Center is offering Writing Consultations with a writing expert from the Weingarten Learning Resources Center from 1-4 pm every Tuesday, beginning January 263rd. Our consultant can discuss work at every stage, and help you move past difficult roadblocks in the process. You do not have to register for Monday Writing Collective to partake in Writing Consultations.

No advance registration is required for Writing Consultations. You may arrive at any time between 1 to 3:30 pm. Go to the 2nd floor Conference Room of the Grad Center. Check in on the sign-in sheet, and sign up for a 30 minute time slot of your choice for that afternoon. You will then meet with James, the Writing Adviser, individually on the third floor, in Room 303. Of course, the earlier you arrive and check in, the earlier you can meet with James.
