Grants to help defray the cost of insurance for PhD Students

The University offers two grant programs for PhD students to help offset the cost of health insurance and dental insurance. These grants are funded by the Office of the Provost and administered by the Graduate Student Center and the Office of Student Registration and Financial Services.

The application for the 2018 Grant Programs will open on August 28, 2018, the deadline to apply is October 12,2018.

Applicants are welcome to attend the PhD Grant Information Session on Sept 12, 2018 at 12pm.

Health Insurance Grant for PhD students beyond funding years

This grant program helps to offset the cost of health insurance for PhD students who are no longer funded by their departments. The Health Insurance Grant Program provides annual grants, up to $2,000, to PhD students who meet certain income eligibility criteria. This grant is funded by the Office of the Provost and administered by the Graduate Student Center and the Office of Student Registration & Financial Services. Dental Insurance Reimbursement for PhD and EdD students

The Office of the Provost reimburses 50% of the cost of Penn Dental insurance for all PhD students. Additionally, the Graduate School of Education reimburses 50% for all Full Time Residential EdD students who are within their first seven years of study. Both programs are administered by the Graduate Student Center and Penn Dental.

PhD and EdD students must enroll in the Penn Dental Plan by September 28, 2018. If you enroll by this date you will automatically receive a $215 credit to your student account by the end of October 2018. You will receive a direct deposit (if you do not have direct deposit, the funds will be applied to your TotalPay Card). If you have an outstanding balance, the funds will be applied to your bill.

Students who enroll in Penn Dental after September 28 are not eligible for this reimbursement.
